Forum on Apalachicola National Forest: May 5, 2018

Please join the Everglades Law Center, Center for Biological Diversity, Defenders of Wildlife, Florida Wildlife FederationSierra Club Big Bend Chapter, and Friends of the Apalachicola National Forest for a forum on the past, present, and future of the Apalachicola National Forest. Learn about the forest’s biology, unique wildlife, and how you can get involved.

When: Sat, May 5, 2018, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Where: King Life Sciences Building, Room 1024, Florida State University, 319 Stadium Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32304

Agenda:

  • 10:00 AM-12:00 PM: Presentations
  • 12:00 PM-1:00 PM: Lunch
  • 1:00 PM-6:00 PM: Guided Field Trips in the Apalachicola National Forest (Transportation Provided)

Following the forum, vans will depart from FSU to the Apalachicola at 1:00 PM. Participants can choose between a 4-hr trip to the Wakulla Ranger District (1-5 PM) or a 5-hr field trip to the Apalachicola Ranger District (1-6PM).

The Wakulla Ranger District Field Trip  will be led by Bruce Means, Ph.D. It will feature the Munson Sandhills, red-cockaded woodpecker nesting habitat, Clear Lake, Leon Sinks, and the Big Dismal sinkhole.

Apalachicola Ranger District Field Trip will be led by Chuck Hess, Ph.D. (retired Forest Service biologist and present Wakulla County Commissioner). It will feature savanna landscapes with high botanical biodiversity including pitcher plants, red-cockaded woodpecker nesting habitat, and Wright Lake campground.

This event is free but pre-registration is required by April 27 to reserve your spot.
